This is for you if
Postpartum was never meant to be something a māmā gets through alone, and this pukapuka is here so you don't have to.
- You are pregnant, or supporting someone who is, and you want a plan that is more than a hospital bag.
- You have heard "just rest" a hundred times and nobody has shown you what that looks like in your own home.
- You want your whānau to know what you need, without you having to organise everyone at 2am.
- You feel the pull toward the old ways of holding māmā and want the tikanga and the science side by side.
- You are a pāpā, partner, sister or friend who wants to show up well.
This pukapuka is not another task for māmā to carry alone. Gather your people, open it together, and let them take pieces of it as their own.

Why I made it
Kia ora, ko Maddie Brosnan tōku ingoa. I am a māmā of two, a Holistic Birth and Postpartum Kaitiaki Māmā, a Rongoā Māori Practitioner, and the founder of the first Indigenous-led Matrescence Practitioner certification. I live in Muriwhenua, the Far North of Aotearoa.
For over five years I have held māmā through the postpartum threshold, and for over fifteen I have worked alongside māmā, whānau and wāhine across the perinatal continuum, including years in social services walking beside families.
I kept seeing the same thing. Mothers were told to prepare a hospital bag and a birth plan, and then sent home to figure out the fourth trimester alone. Our tupuna never did it that way. Wāhine before us fed their māmā, warmed their whare, and knew rest was a right and not a luxury.
I did not create this knowledge. I am a kaitiaki of it. What you are holding is not new information. It is old knowing, returned, with the science laid beside it so you can trust what your body and your intuition already know.
