Te Whare Pora
Karikari Peninsula, Muriwhenua, Northland
Te Whare Pora is located on the Karikari Peninsula in Muriwhenua, one minute from Tokerau Beach te Moana. This is a place where the whenua meets the moana, where tūpuna walked, and where healing work takes root. The ocean is woven into our mahi—a constant presence that shapes the land and the work we do here.
Te Whare Pora - the whare of weaving - is a sacred space where ancient Māori healing traditions are honoured, practised and passed forward with deep integrity and aroha. As an ACC-approved Rongoā Māori Practitioner, Maddie offers traditional healing services that work on every layer of a person's hauora - the physical, emotional, mental and wairua dimensions of wellbeing. Rongoā Māori is not complementary medicine - it is a complete and sovereign healing tradition, carried through generations of whakapapa.
The word pora means weaving. Healing is the re-weaving of one's future, unravelling what has been bound by trauma and restoring the flow of mauri through the body. This is Hineteiwaiwa's work: she is the guide of all that is woven—and healing, too, is a weaving.
Ko Ngāti Kahu te Iwi.
Ko Te Pu O te Wheke te Maunga.
Ko Karikari te Moana.
Ko Mamaru te Waka.
Ko Kahutianui te Whaea Tūpuna.
Ko Te Parata te Rangatira.
Te Whanau Moana me Te Rorohuri te Hapū
This is the whenua—the land and ancestry—that grounds Te Whare Pora. I practise on mana whenua held by Ngāti Kahu, on land shaped by our maunga, guided by our tūpuna. Here, where the land meets Karikari te Moana, rongoā Māori flows from the relationships we hold with this place—the mountain, the ocean, the whakapapa that binds them together.
He Kōrero mō Kawakawa
The Gift of Kawakawa
At the heart of Te Whare Pora is the sacred Kawakawa plant - one of Aotearoa's most revered rongoā. Kawakawa is a taonga of our whenua, known and used by Māori healers for generations. It works on a cellular level, with the ability to shift mauri (life force), move stagnant energy, and release held trauma from deep within the tinana and wairua. Where energy has become blocked - through grief, stress, illness, or life's weight - Kawakawa gently and powerfully creates movement, restoration and flow. It is both a physical medicine and a wairua ally.
Kawakawa Tī & Kōrero
Your First Step
Always booked first • Required before any Te Whare Pora treatment
Before any healing begins, we sit together. We share a tea, we share kōrero, and we take the time to truly meet one another. This is the essential first step for every person who comes to Te Whare Pora - a dedicated consultation session held over a warm cup of Kawakawa tī, where we lay the foundation for everything that follows."
"This is not simply an intake form or a medical history. It is a whakawhanaungatanga - a process of relationship-building and connection that sits at the heart of Māori practice. We take time to understand who you are, where you come from, what you are carrying, and what your tinana, hinengaro and wairua are calling out for. From this place of genuine knowing, we determine together which treatments will serve you best.
Te Rau Aroha — Full Alignment Session (45 mins) $125.00
Focus: Wairua + Hauora Alignment
A full-body wairua alignment session that works through the three manawa (breath centres / hearts) of Te Ao Māori: Te Manawa o te Tinana (physical), Te Manawa o te Hinengaro (mental/emotional), and Te Manawa o te Wairua (spiritual). This session draws stagnant energy to the surface, restores the natural flow of mauri, and brings deep alignment across all layers of your being.
Te Pou Tuarā — Spinal Alignment Session (45 mins)$135.00
Focus: Wairua + Spinal Hauora Alignment
In Te Ao Māori, the spine is the central pillar of our physical and spiritual architecture. It carries both our nervous system and our wairua pathways. Using Kawakawa rongoā and skilled hands-on mirimiri, this session opens each of the seven doors (Ngā Whare e Whitu) along the spine, releasing what has been held and restoring alignment from within. $135.00
Kawakawa Headwrap — Hinengaro Healing Session (45 mins) $125.00
Focus: Wairua + Hinengaro Alignment
Fresh Kawakawa leaves are warmed and applied as a wrap around the head, allowing the plant's potent rongoā to work directly on the brain, the nervous system, and the energetic field of the mind. Profoundly settling for those experiencing anxiety, mental fog, emotional overwhelm, or grief. Available as an add-on to any session or postpartum visit.
Womb Healing & Tara Steaming — Wāhine Restoration Session (45mins) $115.00
Focus: Wairua + Womb Hauora Alignment
The womb — te whare tangata, the house of humanity — is one of the most sacred spaces in the wāhine body. Tara steaming uses the warmth and healing intelligence of medicinal herbs to penetrate the tissues, shift stagnation, and restore circulation, mauri and wairua alignment. Supports postpartum recovery, fertility preparation, menstrual irregularities, and clearing ancestral womb patterns. Note: Not recommended during menstruation, active infection, or pregnancy.
Whakawhiti Kōrero — Māori Talk Therapy Session (60 minutes) $125.00
Focus: Hinengaro + Wairua Healing
Whakawhiti Kōrero is a traditional Māori talk therapy rooted in ancestral knowledge and cultural values. It creates a sacred, held space for sharing pūrākau — your stories, your truths, your emotional landscape — without judgement. This is not counselling in the Western sense. It is a deep listening practice that honours the connection between your hinengaro (mind), your wairua, and your whakapapa. For māmā and wāhine navigating the emotional terrain of matrescence, postpartum, grief, or life transitions, Whakawhiti Kōrero offers a culturally grounded place to be truly witnessed and heard.

Romiromi — Deep Ancestral Bodywork(Coming October 2026) "A profound and deeply restorative traditional Māori healing practice working at the cellular and wairua level to release deeply held trauma, restore alignment, and reconnect you to your ancestral lineage.
